Bowes Museum offers an outstanding collection of art, fashion and design housed in a beautiful French-style public musuem set in gardens and parkland just outside Barnard Castle. It was the vision of a pioneering woman, Joséphine Bowes and her husband John when in 1862 she began her museum project to share their love of art with the people of Teesdale. The Museum opened to the public in 1892.
During the year a number of special themed exhibitions, guided tours and activities for children are held, many included in your admission charge.
The museum also has a Café for you to enjoy a cuppa or a full meal before having a wander around the parkland.
