Group enjoy handling artefacts
This small but fascinating award winning volunteer run folk museum is packed with fascinating stories from the past including 'The Weardale Tapestry', (Exhibited at the national Knitting and Stitching Show, Harrogate 2011) a 16 foot free-style embroidery depicting Weardale’s history.

Entry also includes a visit to the historic and beautiful High House Chapel, the oldest Methodist Chapel with continuous weekly services since it was built in 1760. Services are conducted at 10.45 each Sunday. Check out this short film made for BBC North East.

For those researching their Weardale ancestors a peep at the museum's vast genealogy resource could save months of research elsewhere.

This small venue packs a big punch and is really worth a visit. In 2011 it was awarded "Outstanding Achievement by a Volunteer Run Museum" :    by MLA Renaissance North East
